Can you stay a little bit longer tomorrow?

Dear all,
at the end we decided to try again tomorrow and watch together the rest of the movie. We have to watch it at the beginning of the lesson and maybe we will finish at 12:00. Could you stay a little bit longer? I hope that at least some of you will. We will bring 2 different laptops...
See you tomorrow!

  1. Well, actually I should go as soon as possible, but if we manage to do everything tonight at work, I will stay longer. I've just found a part on youtube, it should be the next scene, i put the link:

Nannina (Anna Magnani) goes to her neighbours and the whole village follows her. At the very beginning she believes that they are friendly, instead they laugh at her and consider her a fool woman. We can notice she is a very religious and devote person, in fact when people laugh and threw vegetables agaist her, she prays and talks to God saying the same words Jesus said: "Oh God, forgive them because they do not know what thay are doing."
    It's a strong scene...

  3. Flavia, you're so efficient! I had also found the video and I wanted to post it, but you have anticipated me! I didn't think to find any video and i've been surprised to find this scene... You're right it's a strong scene, it is always distressing to see where it can conduct a certain type of "ignorance",and i'm not referring to the religiously possessed shepherdess..
It's a pity not to have found the full movie, they could complete the (illegal, i know, but so it is) uploading work!

  6. For me absolutely no problem. I can stay even longer then that(in case the discussion lasted beyond 12:00).
I am wondering what is going to be the real connection between this movie and the law. I am trying to figure it out, but it is kind of hard having seen only the first part of the movie.
It was such a pity that it did not work; It is a very intense movie...cannot wait to watch it all!
    see you tomorrow,

  11. I just want to write a couple of things about the last topic we discussed (law and cinema).
I think that movies can really change the way people look at the law and also the way they live it.
We deal every day with the thin line that divides the law field in two: written law and applied law.
The academics have been discussing about this topic since "ever" and this underlines how much this topic is crucial.
Following this way of thinking we could get to the conclusion that the applied law is way more important (or we could even dare to say that it is the only important one) because it is the law that everybody lives everyday.
This sort of living-law is mainly made by the general population more then by judges or juries. This is because we can really turn something unlawful into something lawful just letting it happen without fighting it.
In my opinion our perception of the law is definitely part of the law-making-process...and unfortunately nowadays cinema can definitely shape our perception.

p.s. Can't wait to watch the movie tomorrow, then!
